Coinciding with the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day, GEOX officially announced the launch of the 2021 "Walk for Earth" Journey on 22nd April, 2021. The exploration guided by World Wide Fund for Nature experts is to walk along the nature reserve and discover the birds migration locations, habitats of Asian elephants, antelopes, snow leopards, and the base of Chinese “National Treasure” - Giant Panda, championing with WWF for biodiversity conservation, well-being lifestyle and sustainability philosophy, and co-existence with nature.
The inaugural event was set on 8th May 2021, the World Migratory Bird Day, to unearth Shanghai Chongming Dongtan Wetland Park, the single wetland park in the country, neighboring the migratory bird reserve, echoing the theme of this year's World Migratory Bird Day "Sing, Fly, Soar – Like a Bird!”, encouraging people to use their creativity to voice for the intricate relationship between wildlife and mankind.
GEOX is pleased to have national first-class actor and chief dancer of the Shanghai Song and Dance Ensemble - Mr. Wang Jiajun (weibo@快乐的佳俊) as the honorable guest of the first stop of “Walk for Earth” Journey to Shanghai Chongming Dongtan Wetland Park. He performed a dance by mimicking the movement of birds and hoped to enlighten society to practice the concept of sustainable development and environmental protection. Mr. Wang Jiajun starred in the original dance drama "Crested ibis" as the main actor which the story is about the protection of the endangered bird, the Crested Ibis, and triggered the public to think about the coexistence between mankind and wildlife.
During the walking tour, all the participants conducted intimate contact with the natural scenery. Mr. Zhang Yimo, the director of WWF Yangtze River Wetland Protection Priority Project introduced that the “East Asian-Australasian Flyway” is the largest of the 9 Flyway Site in the world, passing through densely populated areas in eastern China. Shanghai Chongming Dongtan Wetland Park is located at the estuary of the Yangtze River, the easternmost tip of Chongming Island in Shanghai. It is the largest and most well-developed estuary tidal wetland at the mouth of the Yangtze River, plays an important role in migratory bird migration routes. But nowadays, human activities often deliberately or unintentionally destroyed the replenishment of bird migration, thus making a bigger difficulty for their journey, sometimes even have a serious impact on certain species. Through this event, GEOX advocated that the public should pay more attention to caring for nature and protecting the environment while understanding the importance of protecting migratory birds and their habitats.
After the walking hiking, everyone collected different leaves as natural materials for handcrafting, and made an exclusive hand-made herbarium, as an opportunity to get in touch with nature and have a deeper understanding of the theme of the harmonious coexistence between mankind and wildlife.
